Ex-Miri Day 1 - 08:30am, meet at the hotel lobby by your guide and take the overland transfer for Niah National Park. The overland transfer which take about 2 hrs from Miri City passing through Oil Palm Plantation, Iban Longhouse and some Malay Fishersman village. Check into accommodation. Lunch at the park canteen. The plankwalk which take about 1 hour to the entrance of the Great Caves is an easy walk. The Niah National Park, Sarawak is the site of the Niah Caves, one of the largest limestone caves in the world. The Park covers 3,102 hectares (7,756 acres) of forest and limestone. The peak of Gunung Subis, which is 394 meters high (1,294 ft) dominates the landscape. One may explore the vastness of the Great Cave, where archaeologists have discovered evidence of man’s existence in Borneo dating as far back as 40,000 years ago. On display are the skull of a young Homo Sapien, some tools made out of stone, bone and iron, and cave drawings. Anthropologists established that the Niahian lived in the Caves from 40000 BC right up to 1400 AD. It’s only take about 3 hrs to explore the cave. Return to the park HQ for Dinner and Overnight. (L)
Day 2 - After breakfast, depart for Lambir National Park. There area a series of small waterfalls along the Sg.liam, about half a kilometer from the Park Office following the waterfall are called First, Second and Third or Latak. An oil well is located very close to the Second Waterfall. Other accessible falls are the Pantu and Nibong Waterfall is along the pantu Trail and the pancu, Tengkorong and Dinding Waterfall along the Bakam Trail. The latak Waterfall is popular with visitors. It is about 25 metres high and pluges sheer into a large deep pool with a broad sandy poolside. It is a very pleasant spot for swimming, sunbathing and picnicking . A 22 metre Tree Tower is situated on the Pantu trail, about a kilometer from the Park Office. Visitors can climb and view the scenic Dipterocarp Forest Profile. It is also an excellent place for bird watching. The trail system is composed of primary, secondary and tertiary trails (see map). The four primary trails, are Main, Pantu, Lepoh-Ridan and Bakam. The seven secondary trails are Latak, Nibong, Bukit Pantu, Pantu Waterfall, summit, Tengkorong and Pancur. Dinding Trail is the only tertiary trail in the park. These trails are constructed for visitors to explore the forest, hills, valleys and waterfalls. They are well-marked no guide is required and can be explored unguided. However, the Summit Trail which leads to the Lambir’s Summit, does require a guide and is excellent for adventurous hikers. Dinner and overnight at the park canteen. (B/L)
