The Reef Dive Resort is
situated on Mataking Island at latitude 119 degrees and longitude 4
degrees and 35 minutes. It is about 40 minutes boat ride from the
mainland of Semporna in the province of Sabah. The size of the island is
about 40 acres and lies on the edge of the continental shelf surrounded by
fringing reef of hard and soft coral. The Alice Channel which is about 100
meters deep connects Mataking to Sipadan Island just 80 minutes boat ride
away. Powdery sand, crystal clear turquoise water, enchanting reefs and
magical undersea paradise. The Reef Dive Resort at Mataking Island is an
exclusive romantic & diving destination in the Celebes Sea, located just
40 minutes boat ride from Semporna, East Coast of Sabah in Malaysia. It is
a promised island with majestic treasures, natural warmth and friendship

Described by one of our
recent guests as one of the most beautiful places on earth, this island
really does offer you everything reminiscent of a Robinson Crusoe island.
For a small island, the jungle is expansive with so much to explore.
Hidden treasures within include nesting turtles on the beaches, critically
endangered coconut crabs in the undergrowth and flying foxes at night.
The accommodation at
the resort has been meticulously planned as to not disturb the fragile
eco-system that has been resident on the island for thousands of years,
with all materials used from sustainable forestry. For a full view of the
island, climb our 20metre watchtower for a traditional bird’s eye view. In
no other place can you see both the Philippines and the coast of Malaysia
from just one vantage point.
The resort is caressed
by the tropical sea breeze. The executive king chalets, premier deluxe
rooms and brand new luxurious beach villas designed in traditional
architecture offering simply elegant and exquisite accommodation for up to
100 guests in a serene and cozy environment.
The resort has a total
of 37 rooms consisting of Villa, Chalet and Premier Deluxe. ~
Deluxe/Premier Deluxe rooms are individual rooms linked/joined together in
a traditional long house type (+ 430 to 490sq.ft) while Chalet rooms are
single bungalows raised on its own stilts providing more privacy with high
pointed ceilings (+ 685 to 705 sq.ft). ~ The luxurious Villas are our
latest addition of individual beach houses overlooking the magical sea.

Premier Deluxe Lodge
Situated on the western
side of the isle, these handcrafted lodges are the perfect choice for
those guests who appreciate traditional Malaysian charm. Your own private
sundeck allows you to have a wonderful place to seek the shelter from the
direct Malay sunshine, most of which are still in line of site of the
western facing lagoon. Bedrooms here are designed for your individual
comfort and little place of solitude with cool tiled flooring and
traditional accoutrements. Each Deluxe comes with air-conditioning that
allows you to sit in comfort of your very own satellite television, and
whilst there, why not take advantage of your own mini bar?
King Chalet
The word “Mataking”
literally translated means, “The Eye of Kings”, and if you are staying in
one of these limited edition chalets then you will know exactly what we
mean. Rising up from the beach front of the lagoon, the balcony of your
chalet gives you a front row seat as the sun settles over the nearby
islands in the evening, turning the entire lagoon to a bright orange
colour. Each King Chalet naturally has a bedroom which is simply oversized
and luxurious. The large queen bed overlooking your private balcony with
satellite television and mini bar will allow you to relax to the max! Each
bathroom comes with a private bathtub overlooking the lagoon and a large
walk-in shower. Exclusive to Mataking you will simply feel like royalty as
a resident in a Mataking King!
Beach Villa
These are the newest addition to the Mataking family and the absolute
ultimate in premier accommodation in Malaysia. Painstakingly built by
hand, the alang-alang grass roofing of these grand villas allows a unique
and natural coolness to the room during the day whilst at night, keeps the
warmth of the room in. The polished marble flooring of the bedroom area
retains an element of grandeur, whilst the individual stone wash basins
and hand crafted outside shower demonstrate an element of home-grown
luxury. A private Jacuzzi with jungle backdrop at the rear and a quaint
little gazebo at the front add the finishing touches to this unique piece
of local craftwork.
