Self-Drive - 14 Days Malaysia East Coast Tour

Day 01 & 02 - (Kuala Lumpur)

Most of the flight to Kuala Lumpur will arrive early in the morning. You will welcome at the Airport by our representative and transfer to the hotel by car or mini van. You will get your travel information for entire journey upon check-in. After you check in, you will have whole day to explore Kuala Lumpur on your own.

Your hotel is located in the heart of bustling business, entertainment and shopper’s paradise of Chinatown in enchanting Petaling Street, a bustling and colourful street of shop, restaurant and hawker stall.

Others highlights of Kuala Lumpur will be KLCC (The highest twin tower in the world). The twin tower has a sky bridge which is open to the public and subject to availability as the entry is limited to a certain number of people each day, Anglo-Moorish styled Sultan Abdul Samad building, train station and the Masjid Negara mosque. KL visitors will be pleasantly surprised to discover the abundance of International restaurants and fast food outlets. KL also a great place for shopping which offers variety, value and convenience for every taste and budget.

Day 03 - (Taman Negara)

After breakfast, you have to arrange your own transfer to Crowne Plaza Mutiara Hotel. You can ask reception at your hotel to arrange the taxi. Your shuttle to Kuala Tembeling Jetty will depart at 08:45am. The journey will take around 3 hours to reach Kuala Tembeling jetty. At Kuala Tembeling you will register and pay your National Park permit RM1.00, camera licences RM5.00 and if you want to fish the additional fishing licences RM10.00 per person. You may leave your extra luggage at Mutiara Taman Negara office at the jetty, the long wooden boat cruise will depart around 1300hrs, it’s a great and relaxing 3 hours journey with scenic view of the forest and hills along Tembeling river.

You will overnight at the wooden resort located in the national park, at night you can watch a video presentation on Taman Negara National Park. You may take you buffet dinner at the resort restaurant or you can get some simple local ala Carte at floating restaurant across the river.

Day 04 - (Taman Negara)

After breakfast, about half past nine, you will meet your guide at resort recreation centre. Start by a kilometre jungle walk to reach canopy walkway, the world’s longest canopy walk of its kind. You will walk across a 400 meter suspended bridge 25 to 40 meters above the ground. The canopy walk offers panoramic view of diver flora and fauna at the very summit of the rainforest. You will see monkeys, birds, squirrels and exotic rainforest insects. Later you will continue trekking uphill to Teresek hill, enjoy the scenic view if Tahan Mountain and tree canopy covering the hills and verdant valley. The entire walk will take around three hours. In the afternoon you can relax around resort area or you can join other optional activities such as rapid shooting or a visit to the aboriginal “orang asli” settlement. In the evening, your guide will bring you for night jungle walks that allow you to experience the jungle from different perspective and there’s possibility of glimpsing nocturnal animals.

Day 05 - (Taman Negara - Cherating)

Checkout from the hotel and enjoy your last breakfast at Taman Negara. The boat will depart at 0900am to Kuala Tembeling Jetty. For two hours sailing downstream you relax on the quiet river and the jungle leaves you behind your back. On arrival in Kuala Tembeling, The representative of car rental will meet you to deliver the car. You will receive the car keys of your rental car and you fill in the corresponding papers. You have an opportunity to discuss about the route description and car rental procedure. The journey wills takes about 5 hours. With a car rental, you may drive through the east coast highway from Kuala Tembeling to Cherating. You may check in and relax in the small and simple cottage with private veranda, air-conditioning or fan. In the afternoon, you may enjoy our local dishes near by the resort. During morning you may also enjoy a black coffee at the “warung” nearby the Resort.  If you wished to make the sea activities, such as wind surfing, kayaking and snorkeling, you may find out the sport recreation at there.  In Cherating, you will do a very natural activity where you will be brought for cruise through a river and mangrove along the Cherating River. When the sky become dark, you can see the millions of firefly. If the day is raining or too much light, we cannot proceed with the trip due to firefly will not appear.

Day 06 - (Cherating)

Breakfast at the stall or “warung” nearby the resort. Morning will be the nice time if you wished to do the mangrove river cruises.  Along the journey wild life animals like monitor lizard, snakes, monkeys, colourful bird and if you are lucky, you may see an otter will greet you. Really amazing.

Day 07 - (Cherating - Homestay)

Check out in the morning. Before proceed your journey to Homestay, fill up your tummy at nearby “warung” in Cherating with the local dishes such as nasi lemak and roti canai.  Drive to our office at Kuala Terengganu for drop off car.

Your hosts family Azmi and Umi will meet you at Kuala Terengganu airport; the first thing you hear and feel is “Selamat Datang” welcome to Malaysia. He will drive you to his beautiful Malay house at Kampung Teluk Ketapang. Azmi and Umi house’s decorated with Malay style interior, clean and well maintained.  You can experience some Malay pastime games such as congkok, kite flying and selambut. In the evening your guide Mr Affendi will pick you up, drive north along the costal road enjoy the scenic view of the Malaysia longest beach and South China Sea dotted with colourful fishing boat. You will visit Malaysia most picturesque and exotic fishing village at Kg Penarik, walk around the fishing village witness the life style of the fisherman and visit Terrapuri Heritage village where you will learn about the restoration project of 29 units hundreds year old Malay traditional House. Amazingly, not a single nail being used. Instead, the whole structure is fitted together using wooden joint held in place by pasak (wooden pegs). Enjoy picnic dinner at the beach and Visit firefly sanctuary by the riverside. Witness one of the nature’s wonders fireflies staring their light and developed striking synchronous flash pattern.

Day 8 - (Homestay Kuala Terengganu / Marang)

After Breakfast, you will be pickup for a Marang Mangrove River cruise. Along the mangrove swamp river, you will be greeted by wild animals like monitor lizards, monkeys, crabs, colourful birds, eagles and sometime an otters. You may join our boatman to replanting one or two mangrove seeds along the riverbank.

The cruise will stop at Jenang village where you will witness the traditional live style of Malaysia villages which included visit several cottage industries such as Atap leave roof weaving, coconut sugar making. Try “dodol” a sweet traditional delicacy wrap in the palm leave sell in the kampong shop. Visit Pak De house and see his monkeys plucking coconuts. After Picnic Lunch you will be transfer back to your host family house. You will spend your time with your new family to chat about everyday life in Malaysia, learning about how Malaysia pastime games being played such as congkok, kite flying, selambut etc. You will see how Malay food being prepared using traditional methods. Sit cross-legged on the floor for meals and be sure to eat with the right hand and sample succulent tropical fruits such as rambutan or durian the king of the fruits.

Day 9 - (Kuala Terengganu - Redang Island)

It is the time to say goodbye to the host family. After breakfast, our driver will meet and transfer to Syahbandar Jetty at 0800am. The ferry will transfer you to the Redang Island for about one and half hour. You will be welcome with the gently breath of wind, crystal water which may discover the entire nature lover. 

You will be check in at the cosy resort which is located along the long beach or “Pasir Panjang”. In front of the resort, you may just walk by to the white sand beach. You may also have a diving at the popular dive spot in the area of Redang by make it through the recreation centre there. If you just want to relax, you may have a snorkelling just in front of the resort and may see a colourful fishes. For dinner, besides having it at the resort itself, you may also get it through another resort nearby along the beach and may find out the fresh of seafood.

Day 10, 11, 12, 13 (Redang Island)

Due to the restaurant of the resort is very near to the room, you may wakeup slowly and take a few step to get there. Don’t be too rushing. After having a breakfast with a deep fresh breathe air, you may relax for the whole day either on the beach or at pool.  If you wish to do some adventure activity, there is a small trek of 2 kilometres from Pasir Panjang in the east to Teluk Dalam in the north.

At the small south of Pulau Redang, there will be a Marine Park where you may see thousand of fishes under your feet, which are, has been care under Marine Life Department. Here you may snorkel, dive and also visit the turtle reserve. After come back from the sea sport, by walking distance you may have your lunch at local restaurant such as at Redang Bay Restaurant that offer such a value for your money.

Day 14 - (Redang Island - Kuala Lumpur)

It is the time for you to take a last chance to discover and have a last memory along your stay in the Redang Island. You have to take a water taxi from Resort to the Kampung Jetty but please to double check about the timing one day before departure.  Via Berjaya Air, you will be fly back from Redang to the Subang Airport around 1000hours or 1400hours but the flight timing will be depending what will be the day of your arrival day.

At Subang Airport, which is a small airport, you may take a taxi to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The cost will take around RM 35.00 per taxi. Kindly ask the taxi driver to use a meter. But before you leaving Kuala Lumpur in the evening we would like to suggest you to have a short trip to the Putrajaya. Putrajaya is the area of the government where you may see the Malay architecture.  From KLIA you may board your homebound flight.
