The lodge recently completed a set
of facilities which now enables to take in staying guests. Visitors can
now extend their stay beyond the usual day visits so as to have more
time to absorb the atmosphere and activities of rural Malaysia for a
more fulfilling experience.
In constructing these facilities we
have been careful to incorporate designs which are reflective of
Malaysian traditional heritage both by way of architecture and
materials. The lodge also concerned that these structures blend well
with the setting, causing as little intrusion to the scenery as
possible, with ample room for privacy. The result was, in our opinion, a
unique staying experience on a Malaysian farm, the Uluhati Lodge
The Longhouse - Uluhati Lodge :
Built out of local materials from the nearby jungles, the Longhouse
follows the design of the traditional longhouses in East Malaysia. The
extensive use of split and beaten bamboo is a unique feature which
resulted in new estethics not seen in Malaysian houses for some decades
now. The lodge have however made some adaptation for ease of our
visitors. The stilts supporting the house is lower than usual as we do
not wish to pose a threat to KLCC (Malaysia's iconic twin towers). Also
the wooden stairs are made in the regular style, instead of just huge
logs with notches serving as steps. We would not wish to see Grandma
happily tumbling down as she tries to get on to the house.
Typical of a longhouse there is a
huge veranda which serves as a lounge. A great meeting place for guests,
to enjoy a long cool drink, read your favorite book, play some board
games or just chill out with your family and friends. Great for catching
up with your notebook as well, by recommend leaving your notebook at
home. Just relax.
The lodge have six rooms in the
longhouse, each opening to the varendah
Note the bamboo flooring and walls.
The washroom facilities is separated from the Longhouse. Using the open
concept it allows for lots of natural lighting and free air flow.
Notwithstanding the bamboo setting again, facilities enclosed therein
are uptodate. The final facility is the Coffee House or Kedai Kopi. This
is where meals are cooked and served in an semi-open air setting
Not recommended to feed the deer.
They can be overly friendly.
So there you have it. A base on a
farm from where you can conduct a variety of activities deep in the
heart of rural Malaysia, yet only 40 minutes from Kuala Lumpur (o.k.
that's at 6 in the morning. Add another 30 minutes for the lunch hour
jam). Do call or mail us for reservations.
Uluhati is a farm located in the
hills of Ulu Langat, Selangor, about an hour’s drive from the heart of
Kuala Lumpur. The word farm conjures different meanings to different
people because there are many different types of farm. In the case of
Uluhati the meaning can be quite unique because what we do here at
Uluhati is different from most farms.
Beginning from a fruit orchard some
twenty five years ago Uluhati has evolved into a site of multiple
activities which has made it a place of interest to visitors of all
ages, backgrounds and needs.
Today at Uluhati, whilst we still
have the fruit trees, altogether about 100 trees of durians, mangosteen,
rambutans, etc, Uluhati also has a collection of farm animals for own
consumption and sale to the public. These would include range or kampong
chicken, range turkeys, guinea fowls, kampong goats and deer. There are
also several fish ponds fed by spring water producing high quality
tilapia and catfish.
In addition to the above animals
Uluhati also has several horses and ponies. They began as leisure
animals for the owners but have since developed into casual rides and
lessons for interested visitors.
Uluhati also provide accommodation
for staying guests. Built almost entirely out of jungle materials and in
the style of the longhouses of East Malaysia, the Uluhati Lodge provides
a unique farm stay experience.
All of the above activities take
place within a 2.8 acre site. Many visitors are surprised at what can be
done in such a small place. As in anything else the operative words are
organization and management. We believe that a farm need not be
unsightly and smelly. With good farm management practices it can be a
pleasant place to stay and visit.
So what can visitors do at Uluhati.
The list begins from the simple educational farm tour for both children
and adults to family and corporate events of various sizes and
complexities. Todate Uluhati has had the pleasure of hosting the
following activities for families and corporates, fruit parties (during
fruit season, of course), corporate family days, birthday parties, horse
camps, wedding shoots, photo shoots.
Apart from in-situ activities
Uluhati also organizes off-site visits and activities. These would
include visits to nearby farms of interesting activities (different from
what we have) and for the adventurous, outdoor activities like jungle
trekking, camping, mountain climbing, fishing trips and river rafting.
Ulu Langat provide the perfect setting for many types of outdoor
activities.
A bit on the operator. Uluhati is
owner managed. The entire farm and its activities are managed by the
owner and his family, hence the passion for excellence.
Our guests have asked us why “ULUHATI”.
In Bahasa Malaysia “ulu” means the beginnings, the start or the source,
whilst “hati” means the heart. Roughly translated we would say
“wellspring of the heart”. This is the spirit we endeavor to capture in
everything we do for our guests and ourselves.
ACTIVITIES AT & AROUND ULUHATI
There are a variety of things you
can do at Uluhati. All of these revolve around the environment. The
great news is you do not have to travel for hours to have a feel of what
rural, rustic Malaysia is all about. On top of that the deep rainforest
jungle is also available. All of these just barely an hour's drive from
the Kuala Lumpur City Centre. So why drive 8 hours to the National Park
(my apologies to the park operators).
Farm Visits - As you would know by now, Uluhati is a fully integrated
farm. By this we mean we have a variety of Malaysian fruit trees (rambutans,
mangosteen, durians, etc). We also breed a variety of farm animals for
our own consumption and sale. Our managerie include range chickens,
turkeys, deers and goats, not to mention our compliment of dogs and
cats. By the way, who says cats and dogs fight. Our dogs tolerate our
cats with poorly disguised disdain, though our neighbors cats are
accorded the usual rabid frenzy. Foreign cats have since learnt that the
best thing to do is to tease from beyond the fence. Anyway we also have
several fish ponds where we dare say our fish is of the highest quality.
Visitors are allowed to fish though small ones are to be released
So its a great place to bring the
young ones to learn a thing or two about nature. Well, actually we have
been quite amused that of our more enraptured visitors are the adults.
Ahh... the price for modern day living. Family days/birthday parties/
barbeques/ fruit parties (durians, of course)
Why not have these events in a
different setting, out in the open with lots of fresh air, the perfect
set-up to unwind. We had a group of lawyers once whose customary sober
demeanor melted into shouts and squeals when the games got started. They
are human afterall..Well, some of the shouts were parents telling the
children not to defeather the chickens while they were still alive and
kicking
Horse Riding
We offer both casual rides and riding lessons. Believe it or not, within
our 3 acres, with everything else that we have and do, we have our own
paddock or school where we have the rides. We ourselves prefer the hills
nearby for hacking (trail riding) |
