The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur has
set out to offer its guests gracious Malaysian hospitality as one of the
hallmark features of this luxurious five-star hotel centrally located in
Kuala Lumpur’s downtown business district.
Staff are specially trained to
provide professional, discrete, warm and friendly service in the hotel
that has been designed to reflect local Malaysian heritage
architecture. Guests experience genuinely warm service that is so
typical of Malaysian hospitality. While the hotel incorporates
contemporary services and facilities, it features elements of Malaysia’s
unique architecture. Guests have the opportunity to relax in one of 300
deluxe hotel rooms and suites or for longer staying guests, in one of
the 102 well-appointed serviced apartments or studios.
Landmark Architecture
The hotel is a mid-scale
development with two towers rising five and 13 storey above the street.
Most rooms have panoramic views of the Petronas Twin Towers, one of the
world’s most identifiable landmarks. The architects have designed a
u-shaped building that reflects the local architecture to provide guests
with a truly Malaysian experience. While international standards and
facilities are incorporated into its design there are many features that
use tropical building materials to showcase the local culture.
High-pitched tiled roofs are
typical of early Malay architecture as they assisted in keeping
buildings cool. The hotel and the adjoining office block called Chulan
Tower were designed by the same architect and have been sympathetically
planned to blend in with each other. Both buildings are landmark
designs and readily identifiable features of the Kuala Lumpur skyline.
Guests arrive into the plush hotel
lobby via an elaborate landscaped porte cochère. The glassed-in
courtyard conservatory is located immediately beyond the lobby and is a
feature of the hotel’s interior. Four large crafted rainforest trees
adorn the internal supports to offer a tropical ambience that will
appeal to those seeking a stimulating setting for special events such as
cocktail receptions and dinners.
Handcrafted wooden design elements
are discretely located throughout the hotel’s public areas and
guestrooms. These rainforest timbers have been sustainably sourced from
Malaysian forests and sculpted by local artisans. Hand-crafted timber
is a feature of many traditional Malaysian houses especially those from
the state of Terengganu and these artisans were often employed by
royalty to build their stately wooden structures. Carved wooden
features were also incorporated into local house designs to enable
circulation of the air and to keep the interiors of buildings cool.
These carved pieces of timber also enabled filtered light into the
buildings. Water is another important element of local architecture and
various water features are located in the hotel’s design to provide a
soothing ambience and to assist in keeping the building cool.
Elaborate, lotus-shaped chandeliers also grace several public areas
including the grand Taming Sari Ballroom.
ROOM
AMENITIES
The hotel’s guestroom interiors
have been meticulously designed to provide guests with a comfortable,
welcoming and relaxing ambience. Once again, local design features such
as carved wood, textiles and ceramics have been used to offer guests a
memorable Malaysian experience with attention being paid to place and
culture. One example of this is the labu sayong or Malaysian
gourd-shaped water container which is used in the guestrooms as lamp
shades. The style is best described as refined elegance with an
emphasis on comfort.
While guests will appreciate these
local touches many will also utilise the contemporary services and
state-of-the-art facilities such as a LCD TV, broadband internet
connections, IDD telephones, mini bar and, tea and coffee making
facilities. Each room has a bathtub and freestanding shower with
rainforest shower head. Most rooms have views of the Petronas Twin
Towers while others face forested hills to the east of the city.
